How to prepare for the challenge?
Just think about this: Networks of European universities, a cornerstone of the EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities, emerge further as a central paradigm for European Higher Education policies (like the European Universities initiative). Such networks offer unique opportunities to transform the students’ learning experience through virtual mobilities and collaborative and networking activities.
A central challenge is then: How to leverage a network of universities, teachers and students, relying on appropriate digital means, to transform students’ educational experience, for instance by:
- Offering students access to remote courses, including in ways compatible with hands-on and experiential education.
- Developing students’ distinctive e-collaborative skills and personal network, through pan-European collaboration in courses, projects or challenges.
Why is it important to find a solution to this challenge?
Solutions will contribute to bringing distinctive value to the current and future networks of European universities, thus contributing to the renewal of the European Higher Education landscape. It will also contribute to the massification of the successful Erasmus students’ mobility program, by allowing for more diverse and flexible forms of mobility.
What is the possible impact of a good solution?
Good solutions may immediately find their way within the EIT Digital Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) education offered in pan-European Master and Doctoral programs in more than 10 countries!
In the past years, EIT Digital has developed an I&E education teachers’ community of practice to harmonise I&E education at EIT Digital. This has led to a blended learning strategy, based on co-development, co-delivery and continuous improvement of courses and pedagogical material. The teacher’s community of practice is an excellent context to creatively think about developing students’ distinctive collaboration skills and implementing virtual mobilities leveraging a network of universities, teachers and students.
What is the expected outcome of this challenge?
We will favor solutions that can be piloted - at reasonable costs - in the context of the EIT Digital education network. These solutions could be a new course, new classes, or new pedagogical activities offered to our students. Solutions should come with a clear understanding of the benefits to students and other stakeholders as well as with a feasibility assessment (technology, organization, scalability).
