How to prepare for the challenge?

Circular economy is becoming more and more important - you can prepare for this challenge by googling 'circular economy' and 'novel education', or other search terms - familiarize yourself with the concept of circular economy (why not read the Braungart book 'Cradle to Cradle'?). Familiarize yourself with new educational paradigma. Be creative. The aim of the challenge is to come up with new and creative ideas/education formats to introduce 'circular thinking' in companies and organisations.

Why is it important to find a solution to this challenge?

Nowadays, a lot of companies and organisations understand the importance of the 'circular economy' as an answer to the societal challenges (and the UN Sustainable Develoment Goals). Nevertheless, it still needs a lot of convincing, explaining, ... before everybody is on the same page (there even are some famous persons that don't believe in climate change...). That's why education is of utmost importance - and new technologies can help tremendously to spread the message.

What is the possible impact of a good solution?

As said above, moving towards a circular economy is very important for our current society - given all challenges on material scarcety, climate change, social inequality, .... If it would be possible to influence the mind-set of all levels of people in companies and organisations - from the laborer to top executives, including the share holders - the whole society would benefit, and nobody would need to be convinced in the future. This of course is a naieve approach - but the solutions from this hackathon could be a first step...

What is the expected outcome of this challenge?

We expect you to come up with novel, creative, interdisciplinary, ... educational formats, on how to educate people to unconsciously think circular. Your new educational formats will need to be pitched before a jury., and of course, the best ideas will receive an award.
