Welcome to the Main Stage of DigiEduhack 2020

At the Main Stage Event of the DigiEduHack 2020, we created a virtual home for a global community dedicated to redefining the future of learning. The event took place in Berlin as part of Germany's Presidency of the Council of the European Union and was organised by Hochschulforum Digitalisierung (HFD), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Technical University Berlin (TU Berlin).

Download here the full programme in pdf and find the videos of the livestream on the DigiEduHack YouTube Channel.

An inspiring programme

The programme of the Main Stage Event provided a showcase for the hackathons happening in Europe and beyond. Over two days, it brought together a diverse array of speakers for keynotes and discussions on the topics of digital education, vocational training and lifelong learning.

Panel topics included:

Lessons Learned from the Covid-19 Crisis - Implications for Policymaking
Collaboration and Global Exchange - Finding Solutions Together
Future of Learning - The Innovation Potential of Hackathons
Future Skills & Life Long Learning
The Role of Digital and Green Skills in Delivering Systems Innovation
Putting Ideas Into Practice

Main Stage Event, Day 1

Day 1 kicked off with opening remarks from illustrious speakers such as Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, and Anja Karliczek, German Minister of Education and Research. Good vibes were guaranteed for the audience and hackathon participants with many tips and insights provided by the experts from the DigiEduHack steering group.

The first panel discussion of the day delved into the effects of the corona year, focusing on strides already made as well as the challenges ahead and provided an in-depth look at the Digital Education Action Plan of the European Commission. In the afternoon, an inspiring panel focused on the innovation potential of (online) hackathons and offered many practical examples. The day ended with a DJ session aimed to motivate hackathon participants as they worked well into the night.

Main Stage Event, Day 2

Day 2 completed the look at digital education. It started with a diverse mix of speakers discussing the skills needed for the labour market and life in the future. Here, opinions of entrepreneurs met voices from the EU and universities. A highlight of Day 2 was the launch of the Education and Training Monitor on Digital Education by the European Commission. The monitor gathers a wide range of evidence to indicate the evolution of national education and training systems across the EU, and offers suggestions for policy reforms.

The day ended with a focus on how good ideas are transformed into real projects. Three speakers with expertise in entrepreneurship gave the participants tips on how best to turn their project idea into reality. Throughout the event, hackathon participants joined the stage to keep the audience updated on their ideas.
