Design of a digital campus that can emphasize the importance of social relations in learning methods, not course or credit but based on the challenge. Challenges are different levels, students will proceed according to their level and could customize their learning resources.

Members roles and background

BAHADIR KURT - Freshly graduated from Eskişehir Technical University, Industrial Design, after graduating he started to work as a designer at KYS Chairs. Bahadır, who started to improve himself in this field, took an active role in many seminars, events, conferences, and organizations throughout his student life. At the same time, as ETMK School representative, he ended his student life and switched to professional life. He actively took part in the FABLAB that they established in their schools. He took part in the preparation of contents, sketches, and presentation.

BEYZANUR ÇOLAKOĞLU- She is a senior student of Eskişehir Technical University Industrial Design. She was born and raised in Kayseri. Beyza, who preferred Eskişehir for her university education, has an intense interest in graphic design. It aims to improve itself academically and to specialize in its field. She took part in the preparation of contents, sketches, and presentation.

EKİN YÜKSEL- She graduated from Eskişehir Technical University Faculty of Architecture and Design Department of Industrial Design in 2020. She is a student at Eskişehir Technical University Graduate Education Institute-Industrial Design Program (with Thesis) (YL). She is also studying Brand Communication Associate Degree at Anadolu Open Education Faculty. She worked on how recycling would become a habit in his graduation project. She is interested in sustainable design and biomimicry and thinks her design serves a phenomenon greater than human comfort. She is also interested in photography and aims to improve himself in these areas. She took part in the preparation of idea development, content, sketches, and presentations.

MELEK DEMİRCİ- Graduated from Eskişehir Technical University Faculty of Architecture and Design, Industrial Design Department in 2020. She continues her studies at Eskişehir Technical University Graduate Education Ins.-Industrial Design Program (with Thesis) (MS) in the USA. She is an enthusiastic individual to make a good impact and believes design is a tool that empowers this. She usually tries to find new and different solutions by addressing the problem from a new perspective. Her motivation is her persistent drive to challenge and develop her abilities and the work she produces. In the TÜBİTAK 2242 University Students Research Projects Competition held in 2020, it has first place in the Education category. In this project, with the multiple learning environments and digital transformation concepts acquired in the graduation project, she played a role in putting the student at the center of her perspective and preparing the contents, sketches, and presentation.

Solution description

In this period when COVID-19 entered the learning process through digital tools, the physical learning environments that students are accustomed to, social environment, and communication styles with educators varied. Especially, university education is not a process that is only attended and completed, and its important role in learning in social relations has been observed in digital learning processes. In this period when social activities were interrupted, the idea of ​​creating a digital campus that could highlight the importance of social relations in learning methods was developed. The digital campus aims to enable students to create their own learning processes, shape the course justifications according to their own attention and perception, and share them with their friends while acquiring new social environments through discussions. In line with the experiences gained in design education; The student's management of the process by becoming critical with a friend at his / her level contributes positively to the experiences gained. However, digital learning environment designs used in today's conditions cannot offer this socialization environment in a variety that they can satisfy enough. Aiming to develop a new perspective in design education, the subject of the project aims to put self-learning in the center of the learning environment of the future, transforming the goal into parts instead of distant goals, to complete the levels of attention and perception and to make it possible to direct the student to success through social development. Digital Campus, which supports the student who is lacking in online education compared to formal education, to have a say in his own education, tries to gain the student's interdisciplinary learning outcomes with a project difficulty by presenting the lessons that the student must successfully give during the term. In addition to putting the student in the center of the learning method of the challenges, it is also among their main purposes to support them with socialization.

Solution context

The lack of socialization encountered in learning environments is the loss of student attention and inability to focus due to the distance to the target. Based on the student's motivation to learn, the Digital campus project is a smart system where the student can put himself in the center and discover his own learning habits. While providing a digital campus for students who are isolated in online education, it puts the student and social interaction at the center of learning. The instructors who teach in the model that the university offers unlimited resources are artificial intelligence. In this way, the learning environment is accessible at any time, not at certain times of the day, with lesson hours where time is not limited. It is aimed to prevent recessive behaviors in the academic environment while the students get rid of visual and physical judgments by creating their avatars. In this environment where smart technologies and artificial intelligence and design methodology will be taught without time and space limits in the world of our future, through the challenges that will be given to improve the perspective of general design disciplines, the level of data that the student should learn in this difficulty rather than taking lessons will approach graduation. Intelligent system design, which supports uninterrupted education with artificial intelligence with open source access, aims to further develop the concept of creativity in the design learning method of the future.

The digital campus allows students to practice their own learning habits, which is the center of their education. This learning model supports the student to set his own goals and manage the process, and to decide on the educational materials to be used. The most important criterion of the learning processes in design education is to discover a method that will help the design student to find the aspects that he can discover and develop himself. Through this project, it is aimed to present a learning environment design that emphasizes a student-centered learning method and an interdisciplinary perspective is imposed.

Through challenge, sharing real-life experiences in this environment aims to motivate students who can interact with each other from the virtual to the real world. It prioritizes sustainability by putting students who come into contact with non-contact learning at the center. The fact that the briefs given through the challenges are inspired by current issues also draws the attention of the student and supports the sustainability of the solution.

Solution team work

We shaped the project together by enriching the process with different perspectives. Working together, we used the time effectively and achieved very enjoyable results. We discussed our requirements, the positive and negative details we experienced in the process. We want to continue working on this subject and help design futuristic learning environments by transferring the design of the future learning environment to the world in line with our experiences. We are very excited to work together in the future.
