Solution description

Study SOS provides useful recommendations for the student life. First the student has to create a user profile with their personal interests, their field of study, their hobbies and interests. Based on this information Study SOS gives the student recommendations about events, topics for their thesis and also stores notes and additional readings for their classes (Wiki platform).

A Wiki platform provides several solutions: 1) students can upload/edit/share their notes, 2) text-to-speech recognition feature (if the student does not have time to read the notes), 3) recommendations on supplementary readings (AI-based analysis of the library catalogue + database of available online courses), 4) flashcard generation, 5) performance tracking (based on how good the user is with the flashcards), giving suggestions on when to start studying for an exam.

It is also possible to get info, where to find a free spot on campus or to reserve a table or spot during busy times. If the student doesn’t show up or is more than ten minutes late, the reservation will be cancelled and the spot is marked as available again, so no spot is wasted. Study SOS also helps the student to find activities for their free time.

Solution context

The following pain points were identified and addressed:

  • Getting a spot in the library during crowded times (exam season) is difficult
  • Finding free tables for a team meeting / group study in crowded times (exam seasons) is difficult
  • Too many Facebook groups/newsletters/emails/website about different events (conferences, competitions, etc.). Therefore, it’s easy to miss something and time-consuming
  • Finding the right thesis topic can be a challenging experience (too much time involved)
  • Lecture notes are not aggregated in one place, each student writes their notes from the very beginning, they are not easily shared with students who study in other years (e.g. younger students would benefit from access to notes that were prepared by their colleagues before)

Solution target group

Every student who has a smartphone and wants or needs to get recommendations to improve their productivity.

Solution impact

Study SOS makes life easier for students and helps them to be well organized during their study and focus on value-add activities instead of searching for information across different platforms.

Solution tweet text

Too much time wasted on non-value add activities? Delegate them to Study SOS and organize your student life efficiently.

Solution innovativeness

There are no apps that combine all of these functions. For example, if you are looking for a free study space, you have to go there and have a look. There’s no way to know in advance if the spaces are available or already occupied. Some student representatives have created possibilities to exchange notes or scripts, but there is no general solution. Also, since several functions are integrated in one app, it gives this app a unique opportunity to get to know the user as much as possible.

Solution transferability

You can expand the system at any time and add further functions, such as finding learning partners, study groups, classes that might also interest you and so on.

Solution sustainability

Expand the functionality and address other pain points. In the future the app will accompany students throughout their whole student life.

Solution team work

We worked very well together and we could continue to work as a team in the future.
