Roberta Trapani Maggi

DigiEduHack National Ambassador

Roberta Trapani Maggi is the Head of the Department for Digital Literacy and Transversal Skills within the Secretariat for Catholic Education in Malta. An engineer and STEM educator, she combines her expertise in engineering and physics to innovate the educational landscape with technology. Roberta holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, a postgraduate certificate in Science Education, and a master’s degree in digital education from the University of Edinburgh.

Recognized as a leading teacher for EU Code Week, a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, a Microsoft Innovative Fellow, and a Scientix Ambassador, Roberta has been advancing digital education and transversal skills in Church schools for the past six years. Her extensive experience has given her a profound understanding of the technological advancements transforming modern education. As a master trainer on various educational technology topics, Roberta supports educators and engages students in learning opportunities to help develop their 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, computational thinking and coding. Roberta is passionate about technology-enhanced learning, virtual and augmented reality, science education, artificial intelligence and game-based learning. She has initiated the Church School Awards EmpowerEduc to celebrate educators’ participation in EU Code Week. Involved in eTwinning and Erasmus+ projects, she also co-led STEM initiatives like Code4Earth and STEMMERSION, creating immersive, inquiry-based learning experiences using digital technology. Her commitment to continuous learning is evident through her participation in numerous conferences, workshops, and webinars.

The Secretariat for Catholic Education supports over fifty Catholic Church schools in Malta and Gozo, catering for about one-third of the student population from kindergarten through sixth form. It operates under the Maltese Episcopal Conference and offers administrative, curricular, and psycho-social support to Church schools. Its Curriculum Entitlement Department provides guidance and support to school leadership teams and teachers on curricular and methodological matters, striving to help teachers deliver learning experiences that enhance the progress of each child according to their potential.
