Demystifying hackathons and the essence of DigiEduHack
When it comes to hackathons, DigiEduHack is not exactly the “new kid on the block”. After three successful editions, this digital education hackathon is returning with an expanded and scaled up edition. And you might have already known this. But we figured out, since we are working to expand our reach and engage new audiences, we should start by breaking a myth: hackathons are only for techie people.
In fact, DigiEduHack is not your typical hackathon. While it does build on the basics of it and it clearly involves digital elements – it is, in the end, a digital education hackathon – DigiEduHack’s true essence lies in its openness, its inclusivity and diverse appeal. So, for those of you who are still wondering what a hackathon is all about, here’s a short introduction to the phenomenon.
Let’s start with the word “hackathon”. It finds its origins at the intersection of two concepts: “hack” and “marathon”. The result is an intensive, collaborative and competitive event where individuals, typically software developers and tech enthusiasts, come together to work as a team and develop innovative solutions or prototypes within a limited timeframe, often ranging from a few hours to a couple of days.
At DigiEduHack, we opted for a slightly different approach. While this is a competition, it’s not just about winning. The driving force behind DigiEduHack is the belief that transformative ideas emerge when diverse perspectives converge. As we strive to shape the future of education, it is crucial to involve individuals from different walks of life, each bringing their unique experiences and insights to the table.
As a consequence, we welcome everyone with a strong interest in digital education: from curios newcomers to seasoned innovators or coding genius, all those with a passion for making a positive impact in the world of education can participate in DigiEduHack. How? By offering nine challenges categories, a world-wide map of hackathons taking place between the 6th and the 13th of November in online, in-person or hybrid mode and a global community to continue exploring the wonders of digital education all year round.
So, if you've been hesitant to dip your toes into the hackathon world, let DigiEduHack be your gateway. Join us for an unforgettable experience, where innovation knows no bounds, and creativity takes flight. Embrace the chance to be part of this initiative, let’s shape together the future of education!
