Get ready: the 5th edition of DigiEduHack will take place 8-17 Nov 2024!

Gamification in Schools

In today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape, gamification has emerged as a powerful tool to enhance learning. During this hackathon, participants will use gamification techniques to create educational games and systems that boost student engagement and motivation.

Participants will collaborate to create solutions that are adaptable for both in-person and online environments, catering specifically to the needs of Bulgarian schools. By leveraging game elements like rewards, challenges, and feedback loops, these solutions aim to make learning more interactive and fun.

This hackathon offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of learning through gamification.

The address for this onsite hackathon is: 2 Dame Gruev Str., Central Park, Burgas

Challenge and goals

The primary goal of this hackathon is to prototype/ design / develop practical gamification solutions tailored for the Bulgarian educational system.

Outcomes include the prototyping/ early-stage development of easily implementable tools that schools can adopt to improve student engagement, whether in a physical classroom or an online platform. These solutions will focus on driving learning outcomes through increased motivation and participation, incorporating elements like leaderboards, badges, and interactive quizzes. Participants will also address the integration of such systems into the existing curriculum, ensuring that the gamified content aligns with educational standards.

By the end of the event, teams will have built prototypes or detailed plans for gamification systems, complete with user journeys and implementation guides, providing tangible tools that schools can quickly adopt to make learning more exciting and effective.

Expectations and requirements for the solutions and participants

Participants should form teams of 2 to 5 members, with at least one programmer. There are no restrictions on technologies or programming languages. Teams must submit a prototype with at least one working feature or a clear application concept, including partial source code. On Sunday, November 17th, participants will present their projects to a jury.

Collaboration and creativity are essential. Solutions should be practical for in-person and remote learning in Bulgarian schools. Evaluation criteria include idea quality, functionality, code quality, and user interface. Guidance will be provided for those without a clear concept. Participants can choose any license for their code, preferably open-source. Projects must be started during the hackathon. Unfinished projects will also be assessed.
