Go Wild to Stay Well: How Do We Ensure Learner Wellbeing in the Age of AI?

Ensuring learner wellbeing is a key challenge for higher education. Feeling lonely is normal as an emerging adult (Kirwan et al 2023), but how we respond to this is critically important. We must help ourselves and others be more connected in serious and playful ways. We need to go a little wild to stay well.

On November 10th and 11th at Dublin City University, you will meet other students to craft creative solutions to the challenge of keeping learners safe, happy, and well.

You will meet experts in the fields of digital learning, AI, and learner wellbeing. You will gain practical skills, and if you are on the winning team, go on to enter a competition on the international stage.

You will explore answers to several wicked questions:

  • How do we stay well as learners?

  • How can AI and digital tools help us stay well to learn?

  • How might AI hurt our ability to stay well?

  • How can we thrive when working with others?

Expectations and requirements for the solutions and participants

There are no absolute requirements. As we say in Ireland: “just bring yourself”.

However, if you have a laptop and you would like to bring that it would be helpful. Also your phone (and charger).

We do expect that you engage collegially and with curiosity to help us rewild digital learning for wellbeing and be available for most of both days (you can attend a lecture on the Friday if you have one).

You will work in groups in a fun atmosphere working with mentors who guide the students towards creative solutions to the challenges proposed.

There will be webinars you can join in the four evenings of the week leading up to the event to get you orientated and prepared.

Available Support

You will be supported by experts who will scaffold your ideas and give you inspiring talks on AI in education, the Ethics of AI, digital learning design and strategies for learning well being.

You will be supported by mentors who will guide you through the process of crafting your solution to the challenge your team decides to focus on.

A team of judges will give feedback on the entries and pick a worthy winner.

You will get your lunch on both days!
