DigiEduHack 2025

Rethinking education in the age of digital skills.

Get ready: the 6th edition of DigiEduHack will take place 7-16 Nov 2025

Seize the opportunity, let's support people-driven digital transformation in education together!

Hackathon: Code 4 Sweden

This hackathon is part of the EU Code Week initiative and is designed for young participants aged 15 to 19, with each event involving at least 30 participants. Participants will be organized into teams of 4 to 6 members to develop an alert system addressing climate change, linked to the Planetary Boundaries Framework. The challenge encourages the development of individual competences in an educational setting.

  • School coordinators or teachers are responsible for registering their school and ensuring that each team creates a profile and joins the correct hackathon.
  • The jury consists of Annie Bergh, Swedish Ambassador for EU Code Week, and Jonas Bäckelin, Swedish Ambassador for DigiEduHack, who will fairly evaluate all entries.
  • Before November 7, teams should be formed and prepare questions for the jury. Teachers are encouraged to organize preparatory workshops focused on teamwork, pitching, research, and design thinking.

Challenge and goals

In 2025, participants are challenged to develop their own unique solution that monitors and generates alerts related to life support, system stability, and the capacity to absorb and recover from disruption also known as resilience. The pitch should include a clear motivation for the alert system, grounded in Planetary Boundaries Science, and demonstrate a prototype of the code-based solution. This may include importing relevant data, identifying breaches of planetary boundaries, and generating a visual report. To protect personal data, participants are allowed to use avatars and text-to-speech tools in their pitch presentations.

Expectations and requirements for the solutions and participants

Expectations are to engage youth aged 15–19 in solving societal challenges using digital skills, creativity, and collaboration. Teams are required to submit a recorded pitch, no longer than five minutes, by 17:00 on November 10, and the solution canvas can be used as support. To protect personal data, participants are allowed to use avatars and text-to-speech tools in their presentations.

Available Support

The hackathon begins with an online Opening Ceremony on November 7, from 09:00 to 09:45 (register here https://calendar.app.google/r43HGLJjE2Qznbjw5). During this session, the challenge will be introduced, participants can ask questions, and key guidelines will be shared.

The hackathon is divided into two parts:

  • Part 1 – November 7: Focuses on defining the solution.
  • Part 2 – November 10: Dedicated to creating and submitting the solution.

Teams must submit a recorded pitch (maximum 5 minutes) by 17:00 on November 10, using a provided solution canvas. To protect personal data, participants are encouraged to use avatars and text-to-speech tools in their pitch presentations.
