How to Improve User Experience on Aubay's e-Learning Platform

The format of our hackathon this year is different! Instead of creating a new app, participants will improve an existing one that is used by our employees: our e-Learning platform.

We want our employees to have the best possible learning experience and to include the gamification features in the platform.

And this is where you come in! We will have several technical challenges that, if you can solve them, will greatly improve the experience of the platform’s users and the lives of the Academy team.

Challenge and goals

Goals

  • Improve user experience on Aubay's e-Learning platform
  • Solve technical challenges that we are facing to improve some features of the platform
  • Make the e-learning platform more gamified

Instructions and expectations

  • The platform we use is Chamilo, which is open source. You will need to download Chamilo to your PC to complete the technical challenges. The download may take several hours, so we suggest you do so a few days before the start of the Hackathon.
  • Chamilo's programming language is PHP, but there are several challenges that do not involve accessing the code, so you do not necessarily need to know how to program in PHP to participate.
  • You should avoid making changes to the code to solve the technical challenges as much as possible, as our IT team would have to replicate these changes in each release, which would make the process slower and more prone to errors.
  • For each technical challenge, teams should prepare a Word file with the step-by-step instructions so that the Academy and/or IT can implement this improvement on the platform.

Evaluation criteria:

  • Number of technical challenges successfully completed
  • Delivery of files with step-by-step instructions to solve each technical challenge
  • Quality of delivery
  • Applicability of the solutions presented
  • Ability to summarise the deliveries made in the defined “airtime” (15 minutes)
  • Few or no changes to the platform code
  • Creativity to bring us new ideas for gamification and learners engagement with the e-learning platform
