Using AI in the Educational Space - Challenges and Benefits
For the second year now, the National Youth Palace has been hosting the hackathon and, together with sponsors and supporters, is offering new opportunities to students.
In Georgia, as in many countries, the ethical use of AI is a shared challenge for teachers and parents. This hackathon seeks to explore how AI can be applied responsibly in education while addressing concerns about its misuse or rejection. Students aged 12–18 can participate, working in teams to develop realistic solutions that benefit a specific target group. Teachers, a technology expert, a university student, a psychologist, a university lecturer, and a publishing representative will lead educational sessions. Activities:- Overview: Short presentation on AI (history, benefits, challenges); examples of successful and failed integrations; and debates on ethical dilemmas.- Research Phase: Teams explore real statistics on AI use in schools, international policies, teachers’ and students’ experiences (via interviews), and existing AI tools in education. - Idea Generation: Teams focus on one of the following: - Product Idea: AI tool for a specific educational issue (e.g., plagiarism detection, personalised learning assistant, interactive lessons platform).- Policy Document: Guidelines for schools, recommendations for teachers, or a student code of conduct on AI use. - Educational Campaign: Video, infographic, or presentation promoting responsible AI use.
