Awards 2026 About Hackathons

DigiEduHack 2025

Rethinking education in the age of digital skills.

From creating a team to developing a winning solution. An interview with GreenBites - DigiEduHack winners 2025

DigiEduHack is about bold ideas and real solutions. GreenBites, one of the DigiEduHack 2025 winning teams, developed a personalised AI-powered recipe app designed to help users make healthier choices while reducing food waste and its environmental impact.

We asked them about their hackathon experience — the challenges they faced, the lessons they took away, and what comes next for their solution.

The content below has been edited for clarity.

How did you form your team for DigiEduHack 2025?

We came together for a shared purpose. We had an idea we believed in, and we knew that bringing together different skills and perspectives would make it stronger. Collaborating as a team allowed us to tackle something far more ambitious than any of us could have managed alone.

How did you come up with the solution?

We designed an app for healthy and sustainable eating, addressing the everyday challenge of making food choices that are good for both people and the planet. Using artificial intelligence, the app analyses ingredients and provides personalised recommendations, helping users make more informed decisions quickly and easily.

Our biggest hurdles were agreeing on the concept, coordinating everyone's tasks, and delivering a finished product in just 15 hours.

What was the most enjoyable moment during the hackathon?

There were a few moments that stood out. Learning that we were among the winners was unforgettable, same as the feeling of having delivered such an ambitious project in just a few hours.

But what moved us the most was the realisation that we created something with the potential to help future generations care for both themselves and the environment.

What did you take away from the experience?

After the hackathon, we realised how important it is to work as a team and combine different skills to solve a real problem. In a short time, we managed to transform an idea into a concrete solution. We also learned that technology can be a powerful tool to increase awareness among people about important issues such as food waste.

How do you plan to continue developing your solution?

For us, digital education is fundamental because it allows young people to use technology not only as entertainment but to create solutions that are useful to society. With digital skills, we can develop innovative ideas such as our app to inform people and help them change their daily habits and have an impact on the environment. Now that we have a solution, we would like to continue developing our app by improving its functionality and making it more accessible.

Following your win, what are the next steps for bringing your solution closer to reality?

Our goal is to collaborate with schools, supermarkets, and local communities to test the app in real life and collect feedback. In this way, we can transform the project from a school idea to a viable tool to reduce food waste.

Our message is not to be afraid to try new things and propose bold ideas. Having a project at school can become something useful for society. If we work together with creativity and technology, we can really contribute to making a positive impact and making education more innovative and sustainability- conscious.

GreenBites are one of many teams who came to DigiEduHack 2025 with an idea and left with something real. Their journey is a great example of what has made this initiative unique over the past six years: young people using education, creativity, and technology to address problems that genuinely matter.

From its very first hackathon to its grand finale of the sixth edition, DigiEduHack saw thousands of students and hackathon participants come together to sharpen their digital skills, discover new capabilities, and learn what they could achieve under pressure and in collaboration. Most importantly, it has helped many organisations see hackathons as a learning tool with impact. Discover the full class of 2025 winning solutions here
