Green App Campus

Solution details

Our idea is to create a mobile app in Kotlin that encourages and rewards sustainable recycling practices among students to combat climate change.

We plan to bring and install smart recycling bins throughout the campus, each equipped with a unique QR code. When students have recyclable materials, they simply scan the QR code on the bin before disposing of their items. This action earns them points in their app account, which they can later redeem for discounts at local businesses like coffee shops or electric bike rentals.

To maintain long-term student engagement, we’ll periodically host special events that reward participants with extra points, encouraging ongoing involvement and a strong recycling culture on campus.

The app will be developed and maintained by our team and student volunteers, so the costs associated with its creation will be minimal. The primary expenses will come from acquiring the special recycling bins, which are estimated to cost between $1,000 and $3,000 each.
