STEAMaleta (STEAM suitcase)

A solution proposed for the challenge Girls in STEAM: Teaching for Inclusion

Solution details

The “STEAM Suitcase” is a project aimed at Primary Education students. Its objective is to promote STEAM disciplines at an early age (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) getting them to see them as an ally. In a special way, it seeks to promote girls' interest in them, since there is a social problem that these labor fields are occupied mainly by men.

This project consists of the creation of a “travel suitcase” full of resources related to the STEAM disciplines (books, toys, devices for carrying out home experiments, technological devices, links to videos, etc.), adapted to the ages or needs of each student. To promote STEAM in girls, the suitcase will be well equipped with inclusive resources, female references, etc. This resource will include a document to raise awareness among families of the importance of promoting these areas. The teacher will have an important role, since he will be in charge of filling said suitcase with the products he considers, adapting it to each student.

The suitcase will be delivered every week to a student and during that time they will be able to use all the resources in it that they consider. Additionally, in a notebook, they will write down their experience and what they liked the most.

Teachers will be able to share information and resources through a website and a steam suitcase contest.
