Rethinking education in the age of digital skills.

AI-enhanced Digitalisation: Creative Projects for English Language Teaching

The initiative aims to explore the educational potential of various artificial intelligence tools in teaching English. The event brings together university students from across Ukraine, who are invited to work collaboratively in teams of five to design innovative, AI-enhanced lesson materials. Each team is required to develop an integrated set of three lesson fragments designed for secondary school learners. Each set of lessons should be connected by a common theme that falls within one of three communicative domains: personal, public, or educational. The content should reflect real-life contexts, promoting communicative competence, digital literacy, and critical thinking among students.Participants will engage in collaborative meetings over 4 days, comprising a total of 24 hours dedicated to project work. On the first day, students will attend a welcome meeting, receive event guidelines, and brainstorm ideas for their projects. The second day is dedicated to developing and refining the lesson sets, while the third day focuses on the jury's evaluation of the projects. On the fourth day, the winning teams will be announced. All final materials are to be presented using the Canvas platform, combining visual design and pedagogical ideas to showcase the power of digital tools in education. The event promotes collaboration, teamwork, and the practical application of innovative educational technologies. It provides an opportunity for students to experience how artificial intelligence

Challenge and goals

The main goal of the initiative is to explore and demonstrate the educational potential of artificial intelligence tools in English language teaching. By engaging university students in a collaborative, time-limited creative challenge, the project aims to promote the integration of digital technologies into modern pedagogy and inspire future educators to design innovative learning experiences.

Specific objectives include developing participants’ skills in designing AI-enhanced lesson materials, fostering teamwork, and encouraging the use of interactive digital platforms such as Canvas. Through the creation of three thematically connected lesson fragments within the personal, public, or educational communicative domains, participants are expected to design materials that promote communicative competence, critical thinking, and digital literacy among secondary school learners.

Expected outcomes include increased awareness of AI’s pedagogical applications, enhanced creativity and digital design skills among participants, and the development of practical, classroom-ready lesson models. The initiative will also contribute to forming a community of young educators capable of implementing technology-driven, learner-centred approaches to English language teaching.

Expectations and requirements for the solutions and participants

Participants will work in teams of five and take part in a series of collaborative sessions held over three days, totalling 24 hours of project work. Each team must design an AI-enhanced lesson project consisting of three interconnected lesson fragments for secondary school learners, united by a common theme within one of three communicative domains: personal, public, or educational. Projects should creatively integrate AI tools, promote communication, critical thinking, and digital literacy, and reflect real-life contexts. Final materials must be presented on the Canvas platform with clear structure, visual appeal, and pedagogical relevance.

Available Support

Participants will receive comprehensive support from team coaches throughout the four-day sessions, totaling 24 hours, to ensure a productive and engaging experience. Technical support will include assistance with software, connectivity, and troubleshooting. Mentoring and guidance will provide clear instructions, evaluation criteria, and expert advice to support lesson planning and pedagogical decision-making, facilitating effective project development.

Recognition and motivation will be offered through awards, certificates, and opportunities to showcase completed projects, ensuring that students’ creativity, teamwork, and professional skills are acknowledged and celebrated.
