Context
Teenagers spend hours in algorithm-driven feeds that prioritise engagement over learning. This leads to fragmented attention, reduced retention, and unhealthy screen habits. Schools have no tools that can compete with the design patterns of addictive digital platforms, while parents lack visibility over how screen time is used.
AI IA Labs solves this by redesigning the feed itself. Currently in development with a functional MVP, our platform transforms the addictive "scroll" into a structured learning flow. We use AI to generate "Easy Version" summaries of educational videos, paired with immediate micro-tests. Unlike passive social media, our "Habit Engine" intervenes every 3–5 videos with a consolidation quiz and uses an "Energy System" to prevent binge-watching. We are turning the problem (the scrolling interface) into the solution (a disciplined learning tool).
Who Benefits?
Students (13–16): They get a free, ad-free familiar vertical-scroll app redesigned for learning. The "Energy System" prevents burnout, while the "Notes System" automatically saves key learnings from AI summaries, building a personal knowledge base without effort.
Parents: They gain a non-invasive"Diagnostic Dashboard." Instead of policing screen time, they see what their child is actually learning (e.g., "High accuracy in Biology quizzes"). This turns anxiety into insight.
Schools: Teachers receive aggregate data on student engagement. The app’s "Intermittent Testing" (quizzes every few videos) provides real-time feedback on which topics students understand, offering a "temperature check" on class performance without adding to the grading workload.
Impact
Our primary impact is behavioral: breaking the "Zombie Scroll." We convert passive consumption into active recall using our "3-5 Scroll Rule": users cannot scroll endlessly; they must engage with a summarized test suggestion after every few videos.
Core KPIs:
- Active Recall: Completion rates of the "Consolidation Quizzes" triggered after every 3-5 videos.
- Healthy Limits: Percentage of users respecting the daily "Energy Limit" (stopping when the app suggests rest).
- Retention: Use of the "Notes System" to review AI-generated summaries.
Future Impact: By introducing healthier digital habits, we support better attention span, stronger recall, and improved academic outcomes. As we implement full RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), we will measure the long-term academic improvement of users compared to non-users, proving that "less scrolling equals more learning."
Team work
We are a multidisciplinary team combining technical execution with educational expertise.
Development Team: Built the current MVP, including the scrolling interface, AI summarisation engine, micro-quiz generator, and Energy System logic. The team works in rapid sprint cycles and continuously improves accuracy, latency, and hallucination-reduction strategies in AI outputs.
Educational Lead: Developed the 3–5 Scroll learning methodology, drawing from cognitive load theory, spaced repetition, and digital wellbeing research. This ensures that every feature—summaries, quizzes, checkpoints—is pedagogically grounded rather than purely technical.
Strategy & Research: Guides long-term architecture, including the RAG verification roadmap, school partnerships, ethical AI implementation, and scalability planning.
Our workflow is highly collaborative: we design, test with real teenagers, iterate quickly, and refine the platform based on behavioural data. This allows us to execute fast while keeping educational integrity at the center of all decisions.
Innovativeness
AI IA Labs is the first to combine AI Summarization with Behavioral "Brakes." While other educational apps (like "TikTok for Education" clones) try to maximize time-in-app to sell ads, our innovation is the "Energy System"—a mechanic that deliberately stops the user to prevent addiction.
Unique MVP Features:
- The Interruption Loop: Unlike infinite feeds, our feed is finite. After every video, there is a micro-test. After 3–5 videos, a "Consolidation Checkpoint" forces the brain to switch from passive to active mode.
- AI "Easy Mode": We use current AI models to instantly simplify complex educational videos into "Easy Version" summaries, making learning accessible immediately.
- Roadmap to RAG: While our current system uses AI summaries, our innovation roadmap leads to a RAG verification layer to ensure 100% textbook accuracy—a goal this competition will help us achieve.
This combination—AI-driven simplification + behavioural brakes + verified learning—is not available in any current edtech product.
Transferability
Our solution is built on a universal behavioural learning cycle—Scroll → AI Summary → Micro-Quiz → Consolidation → Energy Limit—which is independent of any specific subject, curriculum, or age group. Because the system works with any video-based resource, it can be applied across STEM subjects, humanities, languages, arts, or interdisciplinary learning. The core mechanisms (active recall, spaced consolidation, and controlled pacing) remain effective in any educational discipline.
Beyond schools, the platform easily transfers to adult learning and corporate training contexts. For example, the “3–5 Scroll Rule” and micro-quizzes can be used in compliance training, onboarding, safety modules, or skill-development programs—ensuring that employees don’t passively scroll through mandatory materials but actively process and retain key information. Similarly, the Energy System supports learners with attention-related challenges (e.g., ADHD) by preventing fatigue and regulating study time in professional and lifelong-learning environments.
The system is also adaptable to different national curriculums and languages, making it scalable globally. As we implement our upcoming RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) layer, the platform will be able to verify content against official textbooks and standards, allowing schools, ministries, and training providers to integrate their own materials. This turns AI IA Labs from a single app into a flexible, cross-disciplinary learning engine that can be deployed in diverse educational scenarios.
Sustainability
Our sustainability plan follows a staged development pathway that connects our current MVP to long-term educational integration.
Short-term: We deploy the functional MVP—AI summaries, micro-quizzes, consolidation checkpoints, and the Energy System. Early pilots with teenagers help us validate behavioural impact, optimise attention cycles, and refine summarisation prompts. This phase relies on low-cost AI inference and a lightweight architecture, ensuring minimal operational expenses.
Mid-term: With support from DigiEduHack, we implement the RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) Layer, which verifies AI explanations against curriculum-aligned content. This transition enables formal adoption by schools and educational institutions that require accuracy, safety, and verifiable learning materials. At this stage, we expand partnerships with teachers and curriculum designers.
Long-term: We evolve into a dual ecosystem:
• B2C – a free student app with optional parent analytics
• B2B – school diagnostics and validated content licensing
The platform becomes fully multilingual and adaptable to national curricula, ensuring global scalability. The sustained value comes from an ever-expanding, verified learning library and behavioural learning engine that continues improving through real-world data.
